My girlfriend and I attended our very first pride parade together today.
And it couldn’t have been more perfect. Happy Pride everyone!
I was born without makeup, and will therefore not abide by society’s superficial standards to wear it. I was born with curly hair, and will therefore not submit my locks to products or chemicals in order to tease them in different ways so that my appearance may seem more acceptable to the next person who passes me by. I was born with curves, with lines, with features unique only to that of my own body, and no magazine ad or billboard shall ever deter me from believing that all bodies, no matter what shape or size, are beautiful. I was born out of love, out of sacrifice, out of joy, and so I shall continue to commit myself to living for these aspects every day, and continue to find them in everything. I was also born a lesbian, but never will I succumb to the judgmental banter or ignorance of a bigot, when my happiness and inner peace matters more than the hateful words or actions displayed by unfortunate disbelievers. I was born a product not of society, but of nature - I am a part of this world, and must remember I am connected to even the smallest of creatures in profound ways. I was born a human, and so I will forever commit myself to acting like one. I was born me.
